Spring comes early to Savannah. By March the azaleas are out and the winter wreath on the door looks like it has stayed too long. Kandi's Spring and Easter collection is built for that turn: fresh florals for the season of new beginnings, from garden-inspired designs to the Easter pieces themselves.
Two kinds of spring wreath
It helps to separate them.
Spring is the garden: florals, greenery, a watering can, a Welcome sign. It goes up in March and stays through May, and nothing on it belongs to a single day.
Easter is the holiday: bunnies, eggs, the lamb. It is beautiful for the weeks it applies and looks done the day after.
If you want one wreath for the whole season, choose spring. If you want the door to mark Easter, choose an Easter piece and follow it with something everyday, or hang a spring wreath and add an Easter arrangement beside it for the weeks it matters.
The spring designs
The Spring Garden Watering Can Wreath is the collection's signature: a natural grapevine base with a white watering can overflowing with florals in cheerful shades. The watering can is the focal piece, the florals spill from it as if it had just been poured, and the greenery carries the rest of the ring. It is a good example of the single-focal-point principle that runs through all of Kandi's work.
The Elegant Greenery Welcome Door Hanger sits in both spring and Everyday Elegance: a classic Welcome sign layered with lush greenery and delicate white florals. It is spring in March and simply welcoming in July, which is why it is listed in both collections.
The Easter designs
It's Not About the Bunny, It's About the Lamb is a pastel grapevine wreath built around a lamb, with soft spring florals in blush, airy blues and lavender and fresh greenery. It is a religious Easter design, made for the people who want the door to say what the day is about, and it is one of the pieces buyers ask about by name.
The Floral Bunny Spring Arrangement is the lighter option: a blue bunny with tall ears and a gingham bow, surrounded by spring florals, built as a freestanding arrangement for a table, a mantel or the porch floor. As an arrangement rather than a wreath, it pairs with whatever is already on the door.
Spring palettes
Spring is the one season where pastels work, and the trap is using all of them. Kandi's spring designs pick two or three: blush and lavender with green, or yellow and white with green. The green is the constant. A spring wreath that is all pastel and no greenery looks like candy; a spring wreath that is mostly greenery with pastel florals clustered at the focal point looks like a garden.
The porch in spring
The everyday-plus-seasonal approach works well here: a year-round wreath on the door and the bunny arrangement beside it for Easter, then the arrangement comes in and the door is unchanged. Everyday elegance: wreaths for the whole year covers the year-round side, and fall porch ideas for a Southern front door has the same layering logic for autumn.
Made once
Spring pieces are one of a kind like everything in the shop. The Easter designs in particular tend to go early, because Easter has a date and buyers plan for it. If the lamb wreath has sold, the listing stays so the design is visible, and Kandi's next Easter design will be its own piece.
Make your own spring wreath
Spring is the season most new makers start in, and a greenery-and-florals wreath with one focal piece is the classic first project. The free Intro to Wreath Making course covers choosing greenery and the structure of a balanced wreath. Inside the Kreative Krew, spring designs are taught live in the late winter, a season ahead of the door.
Frequently asked questions
When should a spring wreath go up in the South?
Early March in Savannah, when the winter wreath starts to look tired. Further north, whenever the door stops needing evergreen.
Can an Easter wreath stay up after Easter?
A bunny or egg design looks past its date within a week. The lamb design reads as spring florals from a distance and holds up longer, but a garden design is the safer choice for a whole season.
Do spring florals fade in the sun?
Pastels fade faster than deep colors. A covered porch is ideal for any wreath, and especially for a blush and lavender one.
Is the bunny piece a wreath or an arrangement?
An arrangement: freestanding, for a table or the porch floor. Wreath, swag, arrangement or centerpiece explains the difference.
